Reconnecting with What Matters – Free Values Reflection Exercise

An ACT-informed exercise to help you reconnect with yourself and what feels meaningful.

There are times in life when we become so focused on meeting expectations, managing responsibilities, or getting through the next thing that we lose touch with ourselves.

This can be especially common during periods of change – when relationships, work, family roles, identity, or priorities begin to shift.

You may find yourself wondering:

  • What do I actually want now?
  • Who am I outside of the roles I’ve been carrying?
  • Why do I feel disconnected from myself?
  • What matters to me at this stage of my life?

This reflection exercise is based on principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on helping us reconnect with our values and take meaningful steps towards the life we want to create.

Values are not goals we achieve or tasks we complete. They are the qualities and directions that guide how we want to live.

How to use this exercise

Take a few quiet moments to reflect on each section.

There are no right or wrong answers. This is not about finding the “perfect” values or making immediate life changes.

Instead, it is an opportunity to pause, listen inwardly, and notice what feels important to you now.

Your values may change over time as your life circumstances change – this is a normal part of being human.
