How to use this guide

This guide is designed to be a practical resource you can return to whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious or emotionally flooded. Start by reading through the different grounding techniques when you’re feeling relatively calm so they become familiar. Then, when stress or difficult emotions arise, choose one or two exercises that feel most helpful and practise them to gently bring your attention back to the present moment. Remember, grounding is a skill that becomes more effective with regular practice.

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stuck in survival mode? These strategies can be helpful starting points, but counselling can provide personalised support to understand what’s driving these feelings and develop strategies that work for you.
